Held in Jeddah from 8 to 10 February 2025, the event addressed the treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis from basic to advanced level, focusing on the treatment of patients with gastrointestinal cancer, gynaecological malignancies and peritoneal mesothelioma, among others. In addition, multiple collaborations were established with international experts in the field for research and education.
Dr Delia Cortés, director of the Viamed Institute of Advanced Surgical Oncology (IVOQA), gave a talk on the impact of prehabilitation and the application of ERAS protocols (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) in the postoperative period of cytoreduction surgery and HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy). In addition, she gave a talk on fluorescence-guided surgery in patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis.
Dr Cortés was also on the teaching staff of the fourth PIPAC (Pressurised Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy) course, training surgeons from all over the world in this innovative technique.
As a special event, Paul Sugarbaker, the father of peritoneal surgery, participated in the training and led a workshop on HIPEC.
The meeting was organised by PSOGI (Peritoneal Surface Oncology Group International). Founded by Professor Sugarbaker, PSOGI was created to promote research, education and innovations in the care of patients with peritoneal metastases. The main objective is to implement the transfer of basic scientific research and clinical research to patient care.
