VIAMED INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED SURGICAL ONCOLOGY
The main objective of the IVOQA Breast Unit is to manage breast diseases, both malignant and benign, in a comprehensive manner, using as a tool a consensus of basic lines of action in the diagnosis, staging and treatment of breast cancer. These decisions are supported by the Tumor Committee, which includes specialists from different areas.
All this is carried out in a humanized environment, with maximum availability. The diagnostic process is fast, followed by a studied and personalized analysis of the characteristics of each case in an individualized manner, among all the specialists involved.
The IVOQA Breast Unit stands out for its specialization in oncoplastic surgery and cryoablation.
Breast cancer is the most common malignant neoplasm in women worldwide, representing 30% of tumors in Spain, with an incidence of about 35,000 new cases per year, which means that about 1 in 8 women will develop cancer in their lifetime (12%).
We know that breast cancer is not a “single entity”, but is composed of a number of subtypes, with different clinical, molecular and prognostic characteristics, so a “personalized” assessment is required for each patient.

Oncoplastic surgery is a breast resection and remodeling procedure, without the use of prostheses, as an integral part of the treatment of breast cancer, which aims, without compromising oncological safety, to achieve a good aesthetic result, avoiding retractions, deformities and asymmetries, thus reducing the impact on body image and improving quality of life.
With these techniques, there is a greater possibility of optimal oncologic surgery, i.e. free margins, and local control of the disease, achieving at the same time a good functional and aesthetic result, avoiding retractions, deformities, asymmetries, thus reducing the impact on the body image, and improving the quality of life.

Cryoablation is a very new technique of non-surgical treatment of breast lesions, which achieves tumor necrosis by extreme cold. This technique has the advantage over other minimally invasive treatment techniques (radiofrequency and microwaves) that it is painless and is performed under local anesthesia and guided by ultrasound, similar to a biopsy.

It is an intervention to remove a tumor or other abnormal tissue from the breast and some of the healthy tissue surrounding it, preserving the rest of the breast. It is a treatment option that can be performed in the vast majority of cases, after a comprehensive assessment of the patient, and sometimes after prior systemic treatment (chemotherapy / hormone therapy).
Mastectomy is a surgery in which the breast is completely removed.

Surgery that removes the entire breast, including nipple, areola and skin.

A modified radical mastectomy combines a simple mastectomy with removal of the lymph nodes under the arm.

Surgery to remove the entire breast, the lymph nodes in the armpit and the chest wall muscles under the breast. It is uncommon nowadays.

Only the breast tissue, nipple and areola are removed. In this procedure, most of the skin is left in place.

This surgery is similar to a skin-sparing mastectomy, but in this procedure the nipple and areola are preserved.
The reconstruction of the breast after these procedures can be performed immediately, in the same surgical time, or deferred, in a second time, depending on the characteristics of each case.
The IVOQA BREAST UNIT demonstrates a firm commitment to excellence in the treatment of breast disease, combining the advanced techniques of oncoplastic surgery and cryoablation.
Its comprehensive approach, which includes the close collaboration of a multidisciplinary team ensures rapid diagnosis and personalized treatment for each patient.
With its dedication to innovation and patient-centered care, IVOQA has established itself as a benchmark in the field of breast cancer oncology surgery.
