The director of IVOQA presented advances in the use of organoids and was elected as a member of the scientific society’s Board of Directors<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Brazil hosted the fifth congress of the International Society for the Study of Pleura and Peritoneum (ISSPP), an event that brought together specialists from around the world to share the latest advances in the approach to peritoneal pathology.<\/p>\n

During the congress, Dr. Delia Cort\u00e9s Guiral, director of IVOQA (Instituto Viamed de Oncolog\u00eda Quir\u00fargica Avanzada<\/em> \/ Viamed Institute of Advanced Surgical Oncology), was invited to give a presentation on the use of organoids in oncology. In her presentation, she explained how culturing organoids from the patients’ own tumors allows for a personalized evaluation of the response to various treatments\u2014both intravenous and intraperitoneal\u2014before they are administered, paving the way for increasingly precise therapeutic strategies tailored to each individual case.<\/p>\n

The day before the start of the congress, the first PIPAC training course organized in Brazil was also held. During this session, specialists from Brazil, Ecuador, and other Latin American countries received specific training in this technique from four international instructors: Olivia Gargiulo, Martin H\u00fcbner, Mohamed Alyami, and Dr. Delia Cort\u00e9s Guiral herself.<\/p>\n

Over the course of the three scientific days, the latest evidence and advances in the treatment of peritoneal metastases were reviewed, including strategies such as PIPAC, NIPS, and HIPEC, which are helping to expand the therapeutic options available to these patients.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, during the society’s general assembly, the new Board of Directors of the ISSPP was elected. Dr. Delia Cort\u00e9s Guiral will be a part of this board\u2014a recognition of her scientific career and her contribution to the international development of peritoneal oncology.<\/p>\n
